#ETDXLabs #RGAI&Data #RGEAssessment #duplicating post from HS. Good things need to be shared.

Dear colleagues,

Happy New Year! Here's wishing everyone a meaningful and joyful 2020.

You might be wondering about a number of posts by S Atan recently with the hashtags #ETDXLabs. :)

From 2020, specialists from the Education Technology Division (MOE) have reorganised ourselves into the ETD X Labs.

Our purpose is to better eXplore how emerging technologies can help solve educational challenges in the short to medium term, to lead thinking across various areas in the use of technology in education and guide research direction and processes to strengthen the links between policy, theory and practice.

ETD specialists are now organised into several research groups, which will work on long term research depending on the ongoing edtech priorities of WOG and MOE. For 2020, there are
6 areas -
  1. AI & Data,
  2. Digital Literacies,
  3. Media and Learning Experience Design,
  4. E-assessment,
  5. Immersive Learning Technologies and Environments and
  6. Affective Technologies in General Education.

We are hardly the only experts in these areas, so part of our work entails maintaining a “desk” partnering with academia, industries and schools. This desks will hopefully bring together the most current and salient developments in the respective edtech domains/disciplines. The desks will also report on ongoing findings of edtech research that ETD is conducting or overseeing in schools. Importantly we hope to use a variety of social media channels to reach out to the wider networks of academic and industry thought leaders to engender healthy and enriching conversations around these topics.

We welcome you to join us in these conversations and give us your thoughts and rich insights. Each RG will be maintaining a public Flipboard magazine which you are free to follow. Some of the more interesting articles will also be posted in Workplace, and also available to teachers through the FB SGLDC community and the public through the ETDtogo groups. All these posts will be tagged with #ETDXLabs and the respective RGs. We have shared the first 2 magazines on E-assessment and AI & Big Data with you below and will update you as the rest become available.

Most importantly, we invite you to reach out to us at MOE_ETD_X_Labs@moe.gov.sg if you have interesting ideas for collaborations and research topics, or just simply want to find out more about our work. Over the course of the year, we will be conducting sharing and workshops on various topics within each RG which we might open up to officers beyond ETD, and we will share these on our social media channels.

We are excited about the possibilities of X-Labs in helping to bring a more research informed perspective to ed tech policy making in MOE and WOG, and help us better benefit our teachers and students. But we won't do this alone :D - so we look forward to hearing from all of you!
