Remote: Any laboratory with multiple experiments that is built upon a real hardware and users can give inputs changing the parameters and process of the experimental hardware. Multiple experiments may be based on the same hardware setup or different hardware setup.
Simulation: Any laboratory with multiple experiments that do not have any physical hardware, but take inputs from the users changing the parameters of the experimental process. Instead of a real hardware, the experiments use a simulation engine or similar tool of some kind.
Visualized: Visualized experiment is focused on observation only for coming to the conclusion / fulfilling objective of the experiments. It can be both "purely digital content" and "real-hardware supported".
- In case of "real-hardware supported" there are no (or few inputs) input, interactions or measurements - simulated or real, from students. "Few inputs" means that the main activity/aim/objective of the experiment is visualized i.e. not dependent on the inputs. For example: an experiment where the users only observe some sensor data e.g. camera and perform the experiment by forming and testing their hypothesis by observation only (no input).
- In case of "purely digital content" there can be inputs but there is NO simulation engine for accurate results and the focus is on producing meaningful outputs and conclusions from observation of digital animations or datasets or similar things. For example: an experiment is about selecting the right subset or properly visualizing patterns and other meaningful data from a huge dataset stored in the remote laboratory (no simulation engine used).
2021 Award
The Award Call
You are invited to submit a proposal for the 2021 International Online Laboratory Awards, presented by the Global Online Laboratory Consortium (GOLC).
You are encouraged to put a link (e.g. YouTube) to a video of just screen recording/audio of using the system from first to last page as part of your submission. There must be at least 20 mins of video if your submission does not have any web link to your laboratory.
Please find all the details in the Award Call, then please fill in the application form here: Entry Form and submit it via the REV2021 Conference Submission Server.
