Question:
What potential pitfalls or limitations might arise when research findings are exclusively shared within an organization's intranet, as opposed to being disseminated on the open internet for wider scrutiny and collaboration?

In education, teachers often assign computer-based interactives to foster active learning with technology. However, a significant challenge arises when it comes to monitoring and evaluating student performance on these interactives within the Student Learning Space (SLS). To bridge this gap, we pioneered a SLS app that seamlessly integrates data analytics into Easy JavaScript Simulations (EJSS) interactives and offers a comprehensive teacher dashboard.
Our study focused on identifying the key design considerations in developing the teacher dashboard, which serves as a powerful tool for gaining valuable insights into student performance. This comprehensive dashboard provides information such as scores and a detailed history of correct and incorrect responses. Employing an iterative methodology, we successfully crafted the EJSS teacher dashboard to integrate with SLS.
Our preliminary findings shed light on innovative ways to leverage the data available on the EJSS teacher dashboard, ultimately enhancing our understanding of student performance challenges. We emphasize the underlying design principles and considerations that guided the development process. By harnessing the data insights offered by this dashboard, we envision that teachers will be empowered to adapt their instructional strategies accordingly. To ensure the effectiveness of our app, we sought feedback from two teachers, two SLS officers and conducted three sharing sessions with the CPDD officers. Their inputs have been instrumental in refining and improving our teacher dashboard.
Administrative Instructions for Concurrent Presentations (Main Forum)
For Concurrent Presentation Presenters 22. Each concurrent session is 35 minutes long. Please see Para 26 for a suggested format of the session. During your presentation, you could: a. Highlight the relevance and utility of your research (e.g., Discuss how the findings might inform policy decisions or generate actionable solutions to problems your Branch/Division are addressing);
b. Comment on how the research enabled you to demonstrate thought leadership to increase the impact of research and evaluation; and
c. Share how networking/collaboration with other specialists, IHL researchers, public agencies, industry and/or other stakeholders led to the development and contributed to the impact of this research.
The organising team would like to request the assistance of presenters and/or discussants to help with timekeeping and ensure that the presentation ends on time.
23. Please upload your presentations (in .ppt format) into this folder by 29 September 2023, Friday. Files should be named according to the following format: 2023 RF_Presentation_[title of your presentation]. Presentation materials should be cleared by your Branch Head and Divisional Director. The recommended document classification is ‘Official (Closed)/Non-Sensitive’.

This year, the organising committee asked presenters to indicate if they would like to have a discussant for their presentation when submitting the proposal for the Research Forum. a. If you have indicated that you would like to have a discussant for your presentation and have identified one, do share your presentation materials with your discussant and engage him/her on how best he/she can facilitate the Q&A for your presentation.
b. If you have indicated that you would like to have a discussant but would like SSC-RC to nominate a discussant for your presentation, the organising team will identify a discussant and inform the presentation team by 8 September 2023, Friday. Thereafter, you can engage your discussant on how best he/she can facilitate the Q&A for your presentation.
c. If you have indicated that a discussant is not needed, presenter(s) will undertake the role of introducing themselves and facilitating the Q&A.
For Concurrent Presentation Discussants
25. The key role of the discussant is to facilitate the exchange of ideas and generate conversations on research and practice based on the presentation. This is usually done through the Q&A after the presentation. Some discussants may choose to share brief insights or perspectives on the presentation to get the conversation going but do ensure sufficient time for discussion.
26. The suggested format of the 35-minute session is as follows:
Activity
Duration
Remarks
Introduction by Discussant
2 mins
Welcome participants.
Introduce yourself and the presenters.
Provide an overview and state the title of presentation.
Note: there is no need to provide a comprehensive review as the allocation of time should be prioritised for the presenter(s).
Share that there will be a Q&A session after the presentation for participants to discuss the presentation and implications for research and practice.

Comments and Moderated Q&A by Discussant
15 mins
Briefly summarise the presentation.
Provide your insights or perspectives on the presentation to get the conversation going, if useful.
Note: there is no need to provide a comprehensive review as the allocation of time should be prioritised for the Q&A.
Facilitate and moderate the Q&A focusing on
• The way the research findings can influence practice and/or policy within MOE;
• Possible directions for cross disciplines/branches/
organisation collaborations for future work;
• Linking to DGE’s Opening Address and Plenary where possible.
Closing by Discussant

For Concurrent Presentation B: To encourage participants to complete the feedback form, an additional 5 minutes is set aside for them to do so.
Thank presenter(s) and participants
Encourage participants to approach the research team after the forum to continue the dialogue, especially if there are unanswered questions
For Concurrent Presentation A: Wish participants a good time attending the next round of concurrent presentations.
or
For Concurrent Presentation B: Remind participants to complete the online feedback form (the QR code is on the last page of the programme booklet) and wish them a very good evening.
