My Reflections on MPTL26 26th International Workshop on Multimedia in Physics Teaching and Learning

Training event title: MPTL26 26th International Workshop on Multimedia in Physics Teaching and Learning

Organiser: Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic and MPTL committee

Date: 7-9 September 2023.

Venue: Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic

My Reflections

  1. Key Takeaway(s)/Learning Points/Insights (in relation to personal development or work in ETD/MOE):

Networking and Collaboration:

The conference offered a superb opportunity to connect with educators and researchers in the field of physics education. This resulted in the possibility of forming collaborations and exchanging best practices. Additionally, two professors showed keen interest in adopting EJSS Data Analytics in their respective countries and also shared their own EJS projects.

Latest Developments:

The conference showcased the latest developments in physics education, providing insights into current trends and research. This helped in staying updated with the latest teaching methodologies and technologies. Some examples (links to PDF if available) include:

  1. Interactive Visualisation for Teaching a Quantum Double Slit Experiment

  2. Geogebra supporting materials for introductory university courses

  3. Examples of physics lessons supported by the Arduino platform

  4. Damped oscillations: phyphox vs Arduino controlled Hall-sensor

  5. Teaching refractive index with a Virtual Experimental Activity

  6. What can AAPT/ComPADRE do for you?

  7. Comparing AI and student responses on variations of questions through the lens of sensemaking and mechanistic reasoning

  8. Smartphone-based undergraduate research projects in an introductory mechanics course

Personal Development:

Participating in such events can contribute to personal development by enhancing knowledge, improving communication skills, and providing a broader perspective on physics education.

  1. Easy JavaScript Simulation (EJSS) Data Analytics for Singapore National Learning Management System -Student Learning Space

  1. Application to Work (If Any) (what were the knowledge and skills acquired; and how can they be applied to your work in ETD/MOE?):

The insights gained from the conference can be utilized to improve the curriculum, teaching methodologies, and learning materials in MOE/ETD. It can also help in training and development programs for teachers.

Knowledge acquired now has allow me be a deeper specialist across branches and divisions, especially for Simulation, Video Analysis, AI chatbots, and Robotic Process Automation. Below are examples of my exploration and portfolio.

  1. Simulation https://iwant2study.org/ospsg/index.php/interactive-resources/physics

  2. Video Analysis in Physics https://physlets.org/tracker/

  3. OpenAI ChatGPT powered chatbots https://github.com/lookang/chatbot for MOE library lesson acting as personas of people with diseases.

  4. Robotic Process Automation https://github.com/lookang/TagUI/tree/main/SLSkeywordsremoveandadd for MOE library Sec 1 NT Science lessons that require keywords remove and add.

  1. Any Other Comments:

Thank you for the opportunity to support my specialist’s growth.
