Unleash the Hidden Powers of SLS's ACP HTML5 Interactives — No Coding Skills Needed!

ACP HTML5 Interactives Banner

Since December 2025, teachers in Singapore have been exploring ACP (Authoring Copilot+) to create HTML5 interactives on the Student Learning Space (SLS). But did you know that vanilla HTML5 already has a rich set of built-in capabilities — which means you can build meaningful, interactive learning experiences without relying on any external JavaScript libraries and without any coding skills?

Mathew Lim, a member of the SG Learning Designers Circle (SgLDC), has put together a brilliant resource website that makes it easy for any teacher to tap into these hidden powers:

What Is This Resource?

The page — titled "Unleash the hidden powers (features) of SLS's ACP HTML5 Interactives" — is a curated collection of ready-to-use ACP prompts. Each prompt unlocks a specific HTML5 feature that you can copy, paste into ACP, and customise to generate your own SLS interactive — no coding skills or external dependencies needed.

How to Use It

  1. Choose a feature from the jump menu on the page.
  2. Copy the prompt into ACP, modify it, and generate your SLS interactive.
  3. Reveal the JS code only when you need to inspect or adapt it.

15 Powerful Features Available

Here is a summary of the 15 features currently available:

  1. Speech Recognition — Students speak their answers instead of typing. Great for oral assessments and language learning. Works on Chrome-based browsers on laptops and Chromebooks.
  2. Download Txt/CSV/JSON Files — Students can save their work (essays, quiz answers, data) as files on their device. Perfect for portfolio building or submitting assignments.
  3. Canvas Drawing Board — A digital whiteboard where students can draw diagrams, annotate maps, or sketch concepts using freehand drawing.
  4. ContentEditable — Turns any part of the webpage into an editable text area. Students can fill in blanks or complete cloze activities directly on the page.
  5. Save and Download as PDF — Students can save the completed webpage as a PDF for printing or submission. Works on laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads.
  6. Confetti/Celebrations — Creates visual celebration animations when students achieve goals. Boosts motivation and makes learning more engaging.
  7. Timer/Countdown — Displays a countdown timer for timed activities, speed drills, or exam simulations.
  8. Dark Mode Toggle — Lets students switch between light and dark colour themes to reduce eye strain.
  9. Camera Access — Enables students to use their device camera to take photos for assignments, science observations, or art projects.
  10. Screen Recording — Students can record their screen and audio. Great for explaining thought processes or recording presentations. Saves in WebM format.
  11. Download Screen Recording — Allows students to download their recorded video with a click.
  12. Simple Charts — Automatically generates bar charts from data, helping students visualise statistics and compare results.
  13. Progressive Reveal — Hides answers until students click to reveal them, encouraging active thinking before checking.
  14. Random Question Generator — Randomly assigns 10 questions from a larger pool each time, providing varied practice and reducing copying.
  15. Text to Speech — Reads text aloud using the device's built-in voice. Supports Chinese, Malay, and Tamil (with language packs). Great for struggling readers and auditory learners.

Why This Matters

As shared by Mathew Lim in the SG Learning Designers Circle Facebook group, this resource was inspired by community members who were already exploring ACP's potential. As Mathew noted, the list is not exhaustive — and the community is encouraged to share feedback and suggestions for new features.

Whether you are a seasoned SLS author or just getting started with ACP, this resource lowers the barrier to creating rich, interactive learning experiences. All it takes is copying a prompt and customising it for your students.
