Getting Started with ChatGPT Edu: A Simple Guide for MOE Officers

Artificial Intelligence is becoming an increasingly valuable tool for improving productivity, enhancing learning experiences, and supporting day-to-day work. To help MOE officers make the most of these capabilities, MOE has introduced ChatGPT Edu through the SG MOE Edu Workspace.

Aim: Identify concrete, work-relevant use cases like policy or programme analysis, drafting and reviewing documents, translation and language support, or data analysis

If you've recently been provisioned for access, getting started is straightforward. This guide walks you through the activation process and highlights a few important practices to ensure a smooth onboarding experience.

Why ChatGPT Edu?

ChatGPT Edu provides MOE officers with access to advanced AI capabilities within a managed educational workspace. It is designed to support professional work while maintaining the governance, security, and administrative controls required for the education sector.

Access requires two things:

1. Provisioning – Your account must be added to the SG MOE Edu Workspace by MOE-DXD.
2. Authentication – You must verify your identity using your MOE email account and Single Sign-On (SSO).

Once both steps are completed, you'll be able to access the managed workspace and begin using ChatGPT Edu.

The 5-Minute Activation Journey

Activating your account typically takes only a few minutes.

Step 1: Look for Your Invitation

After your account has been provisioned, OpenAI will send an invitation email to your MOE email address.

When the email arrives:

• Open the invitation.
• Click Join Workspace.
• Follow the sign-in instructions.

Didn't receive the invitation? Don't worry. You can still visit chatgpt.com and attempt to sign in using your provisioned MOE email address.

Step 2: Sign In with Your MOE Email

At ChatGPT:

• Select Log In.
• Enter your MOE email address.
• Choose SG MOE Edu if prompted.
• Complete MOE Single Sign-On and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) requirements.

If your account has already been provisioned, you may be redirected directly into the Edu workspace even if you did not use the invitation link.

Step 3: Verify You're in the Correct Workspace

After successful login, check that you are working inside the SG MOE Edu Workspace and not a personal workspace.

You should see SG MOE Edu displayed in the workspace selector. Once confirmed, you're ready to start a new chat and explore the platform's capabilities.

Important Usage Guidelines

As with all digital tools used within MOE, responsible use remains essential.

Remember to:

• Use ChatGPT Edu only within approved data classification limits.
• Never enter Sensitive-High information, credentials, passwords, secrets, or unapproved personal data.
• Review AI-generated content before sharing or acting on it.
• Keep your account personal and do not share access with colleagues.
• Inform your divisional Point of Contact (POC) if you leave your division and need your licence reassigned.

Planning to Upload Files?

Some users may encounter file upload issues immediately after being granted access.

Before attempting a file upload:

1. Clear your browser cache completely.
2. Close and restart your browser.
3. Wait 1–2 hours if you were recently added to the approved Azure AD group for file uploads.

These steps are mandatory and help ensure the file upload permissions are correctly refreshed.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

No Invitation Email?

• Check your spam or junk folder.
• Confirm that your account has been provisioned.
• Try signing in directly with your MOE email address.

Stuck in an SSO Loop?

• Sign out of any personal ChatGPT accounts.
• Clear your browser session.
• Retry the sign-in process.

Landed in the Wrong Workspace?

• Use the workspace switcher to select SG MOE Edu.
• If the workspace does not appear, contact your divisional POC, school IT support, or help desk.

Unable to Upload Files?

• Clear your browser cache. For Microsoft Edge, go to Settings > Privacy, Search and Services > Clear Browsing Data > Choose What to Clear, or enter

• For Google Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear Browsing Data, or enter

• in the address bar.
• Close all browser windows and restart your browser.
• If you were recently granted file upload access, wait 1–2 hours for permissions to propagate before trying again.
• Contact the EUSS Service Desk if the issue persists.

Important: File Upload 

If you intend to use the file upload feature in ChatGPT Edu, please complete your first login and clear your browser cache before attempting any uploads. This is a mandatory step for newly onboarded users to enable file upload access. If you encounter issues, please contact EUSS Servicedesk.
Please note that file uploads are only approved for information classified up to Restricted / Sensitive-Normal. Users remain responsible for ensuring that uploaded content complies with prevailing data management and security requirements.
